ACTmapi - a step by step guide

To find out what development is allowed on your block of land, you need to check what land use zone, overlay zones and/or precinct codes apply to your land.

You can do this using ACTMAPi, a web-based tool for viewing maps and geographic information about Canberra and the Australian Capital Territory.

To find your block of land by address:

  • After opening a map from the home page, click the “I want to...” button, then select ‘Search Blocks’
  • By default, search by Street Address is selected, so simply click ‘Search’
  • Enter the street name and number, or part name (e.g. “16 Challis” will return “16 Challis Street”). You do not need to enter “Street”, “Road” etc nor a division (suburb) name.
  • Click ‘Search’ or press Enter – a list of addresses that match your input will be displayed in a list on the left of the screen. Each block will display relevant Land Use Zone and Overlay Zone information.
  • Left-click the result if you wish to zoom the map into the block
  • Click the ‘Territory Plan Link’ to open the Territory Plan in the ACT Legislation Register to access specific details regarding the provisions that apply to the block, dependent on the zone and type of development

To search by urban block number:

  • After opening a map from the home page, click the “I want to...” button, then select ‘Search Blocks’
  • Select ‘Search Urban Block by Division, Block and Section’ then click ‘Search’
  • Enter the Division name and block and section numbers
  • Click ‘Search’ or press Enter – a list of addresses that match your input will be displayed in a list on the left of the screen. Each block will display relevant Land Use Zone and Overlay Zone information.
  • Left-click the result if you wish to zoom the map into the block
  • Click the ‘Territory Plan Link’ to open the Territory Plan in the ACT Legislation Register to access specific details regarding the provisions that apply to the block, dependent on the zone and type of development

From the “Feature Details” screen, two links to the ACT Legistation Register are available, for more in-depth information regarding Territory Plan Land Use Zones and Precinct Codes.
