An application for an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) exemption has been lodged under section 211B of the Planning and Development Act 2007 for the relocation of 132kV transmission lines in the Molonglo Valley.
The proposal will replace the existing overhead 132kV electricity transmission line with new underground electricity transmission lines and includes associated works. The new underground cables will follow a new alignment connecting to the existing grid at the east of Kama Nature Reserve and near Tuggeranong Parkway. This new alignment minimises impact on future urban development in the Molonglo Stage 3 Future Urban Area.
This EIS exemption application has been lodged concurrently with a development application (DA-201936352). The public consultation period for the DA is concurrent to this application and will close on the same day. If you would like to comment on the DA, please visit the development applications open for public comment webpage.
Overview of EIS exemptions
Section 211 of the Planning and Development Act 2007 allows for a proponent to seek exemption from the requirement to complete an Environmental Impact Statement. The Minister has discretion under this section to grant an exemption if satisfied that previous studies have adequately identified the potential environmental impacts of the proposal.
A proponent may apply for an EIS exemption for any proposal that would trigger an EIS under Schedule 4 of the Planning and Development Act 2007.
