Housing Strategy to deliver greater fairness and equity for ACT Housing

Canberra’s population is expected to reach 500,000 by 2030, a city with economic prosperity and a consistent reputation as one of the most liveable cities in the world.

Our nation’s capital has pressure on land availability, infrastructure and public open spaces and to meet the housing demand for this growth population, an estimated 3000 new homes are required each year.

Today the ACT Government delivers the ACT Housing Strategy. It is ambitious. It outlines a 10-year vision with short and medium term deliverables, the progress of which will be tracked through a comprehensive and transparent implementation plan.

For 18 months, we listened to community voices, carried out research and collaborated with the people from the ACT. From those experiencing homelessness or struggling with mortgage or rental payments, to the local building industry, the strategy addresses and responds to challenges from all angles.
