Northbourne Flats Demolition

The ACT Government is selling some of its ageing buildings, including the Northbourne Flats, as part of the Federal Government’s Asset Recycling Initiative. Development of the site is a key element of the ACT Government’s urban renewal plan to help revitalise the city centre and Northbourne Avenue.

AGH Demolition & Asbestos removal are the demolition contractor for the site. Demolition started in September 2018 and is expected to finish in March 2019. The buildings will be demolished first by removing hazardous materials, including asbestos, and then removing walls and internal structures floor by floor. The contractor will complete structural demolition using equipment positioned at ground level.

Work hours

Demolition work hours will be from Monday to Saturday from 7am to 5pm and Sunday 8am to 3pm. On Sundays work will involve only internal strip out, such as removing carpet, wardrobes, internal walls, etc. There will be no heavy or loud machinery used.
