The ACT Government acquired Airborne LiDAR in 2020 and 2015 for the entire ACT. This dataset may be used to model:

  • the impacts of climate change
  • disaster management
  • water security
  • environmental management
  • urban planning and
  • infrastructure design.

The 2020 LiDAR data covers the entire ACT with a density of 12 pulses per square metre (ppm).

LiDAR is classified to Level 3 (for ground). It's delivered as LAS v1.4 in in GDA2020, MGA2020 z55 in the following vertical datums:

  • GDA2020 ellipsoidal
  • AHD
  • AVWS.

Licence conditions

The LiDAR data is available under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0) licence. The ACT Government requests attribution as:

Request a full dataset

The entire set of 2020 LiDAR data is available from the Office of the Surveyor-General and Land Information (OSGLI). Email spatialdata@act.gov.au to request a copy.

The full dataset includes:

  • 12ppm Classified LiDAR Point Cloud, 1km x 1km tiles - LAS 1.4 Ellipsoidal
  • 12ppm Classified LiDAR Point Cloud, 1km x 1km tiles - LAS 1.4 Orthometric (AHD)
  • 12ppm Classified LiDAR Point Cloud, 1km x 1km tiles - LAS 1.4 AVWS
  • Unclassified LiDAR Point Cloud– LAS 1.2 Ellipsoidal
  • Raw full waveform data swaths (untiled) – ASCII text file (for a subset of the 8ppsm data over Canberra city centres)
  • Decompressed full waveform data swaths (untiled) – ASCII text file (for a subset of the 8ppsm data over Canberra city centres)
  • Orthophotography – mosaic in ECW format, 2km x 2km geotiff tiles and stereo pairs
  • 1m DEM derived from the 12ppm point clouds - 1km x 1km tiles
  • 1m DSM derived from the 12ppm point clouds - 1km x 1km tiles
  • 50cm contours
  • Metadata – as ANZLIC and NEDF compliant XML files
  • Tile index shapefile
