Surveyors registration

Land surveyors locate and mark property boundaries in the ACT. To be a registered surveyor, you must have a 4-year surveying degree or equal from a recognised Australian or New Zealand University. You must also have at least 2 years of practical experience.

Surveyors in the ACT can renew their registration online.

A database of registered surveyors can be searched on the Access Canberra website.

Cadastral plans and data

The Office of the Surveyor-General and Land Information (OSGLI) is the custodian of many survey plans. The information shown may give you valuable support to determine boundaries in the future. Accurate boundary data underpins the ACT boundaries system. The Spatial Data Team are responsible for checking and updating data and the Spatial Cadastral Database (SCDB).

Easements

An easement permits one person to use part of someone else’s land. It may be a person or a utility provider that is permitted use the land. This can only occur if there is an easement. An easement may be shown on a Deposited Plan or in an instrument plan at Land Titles. When creating an easement a registered surveyor must prepare an easement plan for you.

Roads and addressing

OSGLI manages the opening and closing of public roads in the ACT. This is different to the temporary road closures process, managed by City Services. An important function of OSGLI is allocating and re-allocating street addresses is an important function.
