Manor House

Artists impression of the proposed building from the street

Manor House is demonstrating a housing typology demonstrating how infill development can be delivered within the same 'footprint' as a residential house.

A manor house is a low rise medium density housing option. It is commonly known as a ‘two up – two down’. It looks like a single house from the street, has the same plot ratio and height as a house, but is actually more than one dwelling. Manor houses may have up to four dwellings, two on the ground floor and two above, all under the same roofline, with common attached walls.

The manor house typology is not a new concept and has been present in NSW for many years. However, it has not been implemented in Canberra before.

Manor House will have shared garden areas, designed around the existing mature trees on site and with much of the existing vegetation retained, where residents can gather and create a sense of community. With a focus on sustainability, the construction will have an energy rating of at least seven stars.

Territory Plan Variation V375 to allow the Manor House development has now commenced.
