It is vital Molonglo Valley residents have a thriving town centre of their own. One connected to the services that a growing community needs, without the need for travel.

The ACT Government is committed to transitioning the planned group centre for the Molonglo Valley District to a Town Centre.

Moving to a town centre will provide job opportunities for residents closer to home as the district develops including the potential for jobs in health, education, business and trades.

The population for the Molonglo Valley is estimated to increase to 70,000 people by 2050. Current projections show that the area could outgrow the populations of the city centre and Woden Valley.

Changing to a town centre will raise the status of the Molonglo, recognising it as the main commercial hub for the Molonglo Valley district. There are plans to include:

  • a public transport hub;
  • community facilities like education, health and libraries;
  • well located town park;
  • road connections to the wider area.

Re-classifying the Molonglo group centre to a town centre is an initiative of the Statement of Planning Priorities, to be released soon.

To support this work, we want to hear from local residents about the types of facilities and services they would like to see. In the coming months, the Community and Recreational Facilities Needs Assessment will be open for submissions. This engagement will look at existing, planned and committed community facilities to provide more specific and targeted direction on any additional facilities that need to be provided to meet the needs of a growing and diverse community.

Once released, the community can provide their suggestions on the YourSay Conversations website. All submissions are collected and used to shape the future of the Molonglo Valley.
