Are you passionate about naming our parks, roads and public places? Would you like our places to reflect a modern, inclusive, and progressive Canberra? Well, we want to hear from you!

The ACT Place Names Advisory Committee is a non-statutory committee that provides advice to the ACT Government. The committee helps establish policies for the naming of suburbs and public places on Territory owned land.  The committee plays an important role in shaping our city. The committee helps commemorate prominent Australians and Indigenous culture through the naming of our public places.

Do you have a strong understanding of our city and a connection to the local community? We invite you to apply! The committee consists of ten members appointed to the committee for a three-year term. The new committee will be appointed for the next term which begins on 1 July 2024 through to 2027.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and people with cultural and linguistically diverse backgrounds are encouraged to apply. People with a knowledge of local heritage and Australian history are also encouraged.

You will help to shape our city and be in the good company of other members of varying ages and experience. There is a wealth of knowledge across a broad range of topics including:

  • Australian history
  • Australian heritage
  • cultural diversity
  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander history
  • town planning and
  • media
