The project
The proposal is for a new 132 kV transmission line, approximately 3.6km long, located across numerous blocks in Symonston and Jerrabomberra. The line will extend from the existing East Lake-Gilmore 132 kV transmission line on the Monaro Highway, along the Hindmarsh Drive and Canberra Avenue southern road reserves to HMAS Harman.
The Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) has been prepared by GHD Pty Ltd on behalf of Evoenergy.
EIS process
The Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) details the anticipated environmental impacts of a development, as well as proposing avoidance and mitigation measures. A proponent prepares an EIS to enable decision makers to understand the likely environmental consequences of a proposed development. The EIS is required to address matters raised in the scoping document for the proposal.
The final EIS informs the development application (DA) which is the decision-making and approvals process. In the DA process, matters raised in the EIS are assessed against the requirements of the Territory Plan and Planning and Development Act 2007 (the Act).
Find out more about the EIS process.
Public consultation
In accordance with the Act, the proponent prepared and submitted a draft EIS to the planning and land authority. The draft EIS was open for comments for 25 working days with the comment period ending on 22 January 2021.
No public representations were received during the public consultation period.
Current status: EIS process complete
The Delegate of the planning and land authority provided the final EIS and an EIS assessment report to the Minister for Planning and Land Management who, on 15 November 2022, decided to take no action on the EIS, meaning the EIS process is now complete.
The proponent can now submit a Development Application (DA) for this proposal for assessment in the impact track where it will undergo a separate assessment process informed by the EIS. The DA assessment will consider whether the potential environmental impacts of the proposal are acceptable and also consider any community representations made during the public notification period for the DA.
DAs are notified on the Planning website.
