Road openings and closures

The Office of the Surveyor-General and Land Information (OSGLI) manages public roads in the ACT. This falls under the Public Roads Act 1902.

Roads are opened and closed by Notifiable Instruments under the Public Roads Act 1902. They're notified on the Public Notices register.

The National Capital Authority (NCA) manages road openings and closings on National Land.

This is different to the temporary road closures process, managed by City Services.

Addressing

Allocating and re-allocating street addresses is an important function of the OSGLI. This is managed under the Districts Act 2002 and in accordance with the relevant National Standard. It's important to make sure street addressing is unique to avoid confusion. It will also make sure services like emergency services can be delivered on time.
