The project

An application for a scoping document has been lodged by Transport Canberra and City Services Directorate (TCCS) to extend and upgrade Morisset Road. The project aims to provide a heavy vehicle freight route between the Federal and Barton Highway via Morisset Road, Sandford Street and Gungahlin Drive. The proposal includes:

  • the upgrade of approximately 1100 metres of the existing Morisset Road between Flemington Road and Old Well Station Road to a divided road,
  • extension of Morisset Road from Old Well Station Road to the Federal Highway for approximately 900 metres and creation of a floodway and underpass between Old Well Station Road and the Federal Highway,
  • various general works such as shared paths, a signalised intersection at Old Well Station Road, street lighting, landscaping, median works and other ancillary works.

A new retardation basin in the Sullivans Creek catchment is proposed to manage stormwater on Morisset Road, Flemington Road and downstream of Gungahlin.

EIS process

The Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) details the anticipated environmental impacts of a development, as well as proposing avoidance and mitigation measures. A proponent prepares an EIS to enable decision makers to understand the environmental consequences of a proposed development. The EIS is required to address matters raised in the scoping document for the proposal.
